Being a treasurer isn’t just about handling money, it means knowing how your finances stand and planning accordingly. You will learn how to budget, and how to write for funding applications both of which are very desirable skills! 

Personal skills required

  • Well Organised
    You will need to keep a regular update on the groups finances, you will also need to deposit money and complete requisition forms. 
  • Numerical Competence
    You will need to be able to read and understand your groups accounts, you will also need to be able to cost projects effective and realistically.
  • Communication
    You will need to be able to communicate the current finances with your group, your budget planning with the Students’ Union and once a year present the accounts to your membership at your AGM. It is important to keep in mind that any expenditure from the membership and budget accounts needs to benefit all members in the Activity Group and not just the committee.
  • Trustworthy

Key Responsibilities

  1. Learning and understanding the Students’ Union financial system, attending training
  2. Organise affiliation to national bodies (via Activities Office)
  3. Apply for the annual grant and extra monthly funding from the Union as necessary
  4. Collect all membership fees and pay invoices
  5. Keep track of all income / expenditure in a timely manor
  6. Keep the committee and members informed of the group’s financial situation
  7. Organise fundraising or sponsorship for your group
  8. Countersign every requisition form
